A rant inspired by the puritanical posturing of pedantic politicians. You can thank them at the polls. Soon.
I’m not a sociologist, or a primatologist, or any other kind of “ologist” you can name, so if you want to argue fine points, blow me. These are just some strongly prevalent thoughts I’m spilling in semi-anger.
I can scarcely imagine an endeavor so completely devoid of hope and reason as the futile effort to stifle human sexuality. Yet, it continues unabated, it’s proponents undaunted by endless bleak and utter failures. This fact astounds me.
These puritanical antagonists are destined to failure, because their premise rests on a blind refusal to acknowledge and accept a basic, fundamental truth. They fail because a truth – any truth – remains true with no regard whatsoever for the preferences of either the plurality or the few, and survives intact no matter how many suffocating layers of idealistic bullshit are heaped upon it in an effort to hide or disguise it. A truth cannot be defeated.
And, the truth they cannot accept is a rather large one. It may not be popular. It may offend some, or many, but it is an immovable behemoth of a truth, nonetheless — that being the truth that we are all, each and every one of us, including the entirety of the ranks of these parsimonious pontificators, at our cores, animals. We are, admittedly, highly developed animals, refined by the passage of eons; but we are animals, nonetheless. We have evolved to a degree of intelligence and refinement unrivaled by any other species. Our intellect sets us apart from all other animals. But, we remain animals.
And, here’s the thing — the truth is that our admittedly glorified evolution has not served to lessen by any degree whatsoever our primal needs of affection, of physical contact, or of sexual satisfaction and connection. Look around you. Look at society, at the motivations that drive so many industries. Look at what sells and why. Most importantly, look for a moment with total honesty and clarity within. Could this fact somehow be rendered more evident? Our base needs remain. They have not lessened. To the contrary,— they have evolved together with our intellects, rendering us ever more creative in our carnal conduct, and more diverse in our varied desires. If anything, it is our intelligence that renders us such incredibly sensual beings.
Now, please, don’t misunderstand— I’m not suggesting that, at this late-game stage, we, as human beings, somehow remain so feral that we cannot control ourselves. That is not my point at all. Rather, my point is this: the fact we are capable of controlling ourselves, our needs, and our desires, makes us no less feral at heart.
I think the moral majority would do well to consider this, as well— a point that I won’t hold out as an indisputable truth, but in which I hold a firm belief and resolve— that he who attempts to usurp that ultimate, overarching control over one’s sexuality from the authority of the individual animal is likely to get bitten.
Not in the good way!
♥ 😉
