Oyá!

My melanin is seen as a threat by those who fail to understand its beauty. How dare I value myself in this skin? How dare I demand the respect that should be inherent to every human? Who am I to want equality in a world that sees my hue as a target?

I am a black woman. The least celebrated, yet I hold a strength beyond measure. I will celebrate myself. I will celebrate my people and our rich culture. I will rise, no matter how many times I am pushed down. For I am the soil that nurtures my people, and my resilience is the bedrock of our growth.

Saravá! Oyá, Epa Hei Iansã! I call upon my ancestors and the divine forces that guide me. With their strength, I continue to stand tall, proud, and unyielding. 🙏🏾❤️
