Ladies and gentlemen, sisters and brothers of Brazil and beyond—
Tonight, we gather in this virtual arena not to merely remember a man, but to honor a movement—a life lived in service to the people, and a legacy carved into the very fabric of our nation. I speak of none other than Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, affectionately known to us as Lula.
From the dry lands of Caetés, Pernambuco, came a child of poverty whose story would become the hope of millions. Lula was not born into power—he earned it. With hands hardened by labor, and a heart tender with compassion, he rose from the factory floor to the presidential palace. He did not inherit Brazil; he walked alongside it, step by step, barefoot, resolute.
When history silenced voices, he gave his roar. As a union leader during the shadow years of dictatorship, he stood not above the people, but beside them—amplifying their cries for justice and dignity. He founded the Workers’ Party not with privilege, but with purpose: to lift the forgotten and illuminate their place in the sun.
And so, in 2002, the son of a maid and a farmer became the voice of a country. His presidency wasn’t simply policy—it was poetry. With Bolsa Família, he fed stomachs and dreams. With Fome Zero, he took aim at hunger and said: “No more.” Lula gave millions the right to exist not just legally, but meaningfully.
Even when storms threatened his legacy—when bars enclosed him and opponents dismissed him—he emerged, resilient. Cleared of accusations, he returned, not as a relic of the past, but as the heartbeat of a new Brazil. In 2023, he again took the helm—more tempered, more determined.
But Lula is more than the office he holds. He is a testament to the Brazilian spirit: stubborn, soulful, and soaring. A man who never forgot where he came from—and never stopped dreaming of where we could go.
His legacy is not etched in stone—it breathes in the children who study, the mothers who feed their families, the workers who speak without fear. He showed the world that leadership is not grandeur; it is grit. That power need not oppress—it can uplift.
So, let this tribute stand not as a farewell, but as a salute. To Lula da Silva—who walked with the poor, challenged the mighty, and shaped a nation with nothing but conviction and love.
May his story continue, not just in books, but in our lives.
Obrigado, Presidente. You are not just real—you are remarkable. ✊🏾👊🏾
