Under Construction

Sometimes, while driving, you come across a sign that reads, “road under construction, thank you for your patience.” The truth is, this sentiment applies just as much to people as it does to roads. We are all, in some way, under construction—learning, developing, and hopefully improving as we go along.

Patience and understanding are crucial virtues when dealing with others, for we are all navigating our own construction zones, trying to piece ourselves together amidst life’s challenges. Impatience can drive us to frustration and madness, but recognizing that everyone is a work in progress helps us extend grace and empathy.

However, it’s also important to discern when an individual’s progress is stagnant, when their personal construction seems perpetually incomplete. In such cases, it might be wise to take a detour, to find an alternate route for your mind and heart. This doesn’t mean giving up on people, but rather, knowing when to protect your own peace and well-being.

By being mindful and smart about the relationships we nurture, we can avoid unnecessary misery. Embrace those who are actively working on themselves, and be patient with them, just as you would hope they’d be with you. And when necessary, don’t hesitate to take a different path to ensure your own growth and happiness. 🙏🏾
