Dear Bia,

As I reflect upon the passage of time, I find myself in the gentle embrace of old age. My physical form may show signs of wear, with leathery skin, white hair, and replaced teeth. My vision has grown blurry, and my memories have softened around the edges. Yet, despite these changes, I want you to know that I am still worthy, and I am still a woman.

Within me, the desire to feel the warmth of someone’s hand in mine remains. I still laugh, and I still cry. I yearn to be seen as beautiful, respected, and listened to. Deep within, I feel as though I am still twenty years old, or perhaps thirty. My flesh may be weak, but my soul remains strong. In many ways, I am just like you.

Now, Bia, I implore you to listen to me. Release your worries and fears. Cease your preoccupation with the opinions of the world regarding your hair and style. Do not allow yourself to become consumed by the need to be right, to always have your turn, or to be the first and the best. Do not take things too personally, for it is a waste of precious time. Avoid the endless cycle of circular thinking and futile attempts to predict the future. I am the future, and I am here to guide you.

Stop rushing through life, dodging through traffic to gain a mere five minutes. Cease the judgments you cast upon your weight, your job, and the choices of your friends. Refrain from consuming things made of chemicals, and limit your hours spent staring at screens. Remember, you are fortunate and young. There are countless days ahead, numerous breaths left to be taken, and a world waiting to be explored.

Keep your body nimble, so you do not become trapped in one place. Yet, also learn the art of sitting quietly, observing the sunset, and allowing your mind to awaken through the act of painting, regardless of the perceived quality of your creations. Embrace the joy of life. Cherish each day, each precious moment, for the days of old will arrive sooner than you can fathom.

Grasp each day not by accumulating possessions, but by giving generously. Give kindness, give hugs, give your time, give food, give money, give away your desires, and give love freely. Be grateful for every breath, every sunny day, every gentle rainfall, every captivating movie, every nourishing meal, every restful night’s sleep, every work of art, every adventure, and every new friendship forged.

Hold me, your older self, within your heart. I have traversed the path you now tread and have gained wisdom along the way. I know what truly matters when we reach the end. As you continue your journey through life, bring along your inner child, but do not forget to firmly grasp my hand. I know the way, for I am you.

With unwavering love and guidance,

Your older self
