If

If my heart stops beating, by and by
If my eyes don’t blink either closed or open
Take me to the mountains, take me to the world
Let me hear birdsong unfiltered by pollution
Let me taste snow upon an unmoving lip
Let me feel the breeze passed from aspen to pine to me
Let me live in the wilds one last time
If I rise again there is life still within me
Be it one ounce, one grain, one cell,
one molecule of life it will breed, it will grow
And I will be infused with life once more
If I still do not move, bury me here
But do not mourn my recent passing
For I died long before you brought me here.
Bury me and remember me when I lived
And know my eternal thanks for bringing me home…. 🙏❤
