This is what has worked for me…

Learn from the earth and its cycles. The moon waxes and wanes, the tide ebbs and flows, and the trees shed their leaves in cycles. All beautiful things in nature go through darkness before refreshing themselves. Know that healing is slow but it’ll come, eventually. You’ll surely return whole and glowing.

Care for yourself as you would care for your best friend or family member if they were wounded. Be gentle, patient, and nurturing. Encourage yourself to take walks, to eat well, to drink enough water, to sleep until you wake refreshed.

Be conscious of the energy you’re projecting with your voice and attitude and movements. Sometimes being hurt can lead us to lash out and hurt others, when really we should be focused on acting with kindness and compassion.

No matter how empty you feel, focus on giving love to the people around you, always. This can be expressed romantically, platonically, or towards yourself. Even the most subtle actions can change the course of your day, and somebody else’s.

Whatever you do, don’t try to another or avoid the anguish. Allow yourself to feel. Really feel. And feel, and feel, and feel some more. Give yourself permission to wail, to howl, to stay in bed when the outside world is daunting, to be overcome by the emptiness. Suffering is something that should be embraced. Appreciate the process while you have the opportunity to do so, because it won’t last forever.

Namaste…❤

  1. This is what has been working for me and works for me, too, yes. With plenty of pain as part of the “program”, part of the “deal”. But then: Pain often is the cradle of lasting transformation, the cauldron that brings our most dependable resources to that boiling point that sets the conditions for new beginnings and the shaping of a new or refreshed landscape.

  2. Very beautiful drawing but I do not embrace pain. I look for hope in this world and I find it in your artwork. You are beautiful as well, Beatriz.
