Reflections in the Mirror

July 9, 2013
In the quiet of my room, I stand before the mirror, stripped of pretense and artifice. The glass reflects not just my physical form, but the contours of my soul—the questions etched into my being, the scars hidden beneath skin.
My parents, unwitting guides on this labyrinthine path, bore the weight of my inquiries. Their faces, etched with love and uncertainty, held answers and silences. They stumbled over the complexities of existence, their voices faltering like fragile wings against the tempest of my curiosity.
“Why?” I asked them, my voice echoing through the years. Why did I feel love for a boy who despised my soul? Why did crimson flow from my veins, relentless and unyielding? Why did the world chase me, and why did silence shroud their explanations?
They couldn’t tell me why his hands were allowed to trespass upon my innocence. Instead, they taught me resilience—the art of standing naked before life’s mirror, accepting every scar, every nuance of my existence.
In the hush of solitude, I learned that quietude is an asset, a canvas upon which truth paints its subtle strokes. The loudest voices often lack the depth of conviction; it is the whisper that resonates within the chambers of the heart.
My conscience, a mosaic of their faces, guided me through crossroads. Their fear—the raw vulnerability of parenthood—etched lines on their brows as they cradled me, fragile and new. They were architects of my resilience, builders of my unyielding spirit.
Adolescence unfurled like a storm, rebellion masquerading as cool indifference. Yet, beneath the defiance, their unwavering support anchored me. Luck danced upon my shoulders, and only now do I grasp its weight—the privilege of parents who taught me to hunt for my identity, to embrace the unknown.
I am enough, they whispered, their voices woven into the fabric of my being. Pain, they said, is a sculptor; it molds us, chiseling strength from vulnerability. So I rise, not despite the wounds, but because of them. I stand stronger than ever, a testament to their love, my own resilience, and the mirror that reflects the journey of fifty years. ❤️
