Rainy Days

It’s one of those beautiful rainy days when the entire house seems to echo with the force of the sky’s frustration. The raindrops are falling like uncertain poems written by shaky fingers tap tap tapping on ancient typewriters. The windows are fogged and my feet are cold but there’s music in the air and there’s the warmth of coffee and candles that keeps me alive. Today I painted my eyes with dark kajal. Today I folded myself into vanilla raspberry sheets. Today the church bells still ring loud and true with an unfaltering rhythm.

Last night I couldn’t sleep too well, but everything takes a little bit of getting used to. This loneliness is something that I welcomed in the daylight. I have to learn how to sleep in the quiet of my own heart. I have to learn how to close my eyes to a lonely house. I checked the door twice, checked the windows, and kept my candle on. I slept playing with the shadows of a dying flame, pulling my eyes into a dream. ❤
