Throughout this journey, there are moments when we may feel like victims of an insensitive world. We feel bruised by the harshness of people, environments, and the fast-paced nature of life around us. Because self-preservation does not always come naturally to us, we must learn to prioritize our own well-being with intention and grace.
It is a delicate balance. While we often pride ourselves on our deep empathy, it is important to be honest with ourselves: our sensitivity does not always equate to being sensitive to others.
In our desperation to feel safe, we might inadvertently place unfair demands on those we love. We may find ourselves using our “highly sensitive” nature as a shield to control our surroundings or as an excuse to retreat entirely. It is a human habit, but one we must be mindful of. Even as we learn to nurture our own needs, we must remember to hold space for the needs and perspectives of those walking beside us. ❤
